Kala Chana Chaat

Blogging Marathon#22 Week 1 Day 1
It is always fun to cook when you have company in the kitchen. The blogging marathon truly creates such a wonderful feeling of a huge virtual kitchen wherein there are so many of us deciding on what to cook(each blogger's perception and interpretation of the theme), how to present it and last but not the least the writing of the blog post to finally present it on the virtual dining table. So, when I came across the post for the blogging marathon and the addition of new themes I didn't wish to let this opportunity go by.It is a wonderful way to interact with other food bloggers and also read and know a lot more about the theme you decide on. A truly enriching experience.

Cooking with Chickpeas is my theme for the next three days and the kala chana, chana dal and the chickpeas are all allowed as part of the theme. I decided to come up with the nutritious, healthy and delicious kala chana chaat. A quick dish that will satisfy your craving for a tasty tangy snack. You may serve it as a starter or even as a side dish with your main course.
Ingredients:
Kala Chana - 200 gms(pre-soaked and pressure cooked with a pinch of turmeric, salt and 1/2 a tsp of Kashmiri chilli powder)
Onion - 1(chopped finely)
Tomato -1(chopped finely)
Green chillies -2 (chopped finely)
Lemon Juice - 2 tbsp(or a little more as per taste)
Chaat Masala - 3/4 tsp( to taste)
Black Salt or Kala Namak - 1/2 tsp( or as per taste)
Salt - to taste
Oil-1 tbsp
Coriander leaves- 2 tbsp(finely chopped)

Method for Kala chana Chaat:
1-Soak the Kala Chana in water for 6-8 hours. Wash, drain and pressure cook with salt and a pinch of turmeric powder for approximately 3 glasses of water for about 20-25 minutes. After the pressure is completely released, open the pressure cooker and boil to drain out the remaining water(you need to cook the chana well however do not over-cook or else it will get mashed). If there is too much water remaining drain out the excess(you may use this water while making atta for your chapatis or for making dal).
2- Add in a tbsp of oil and lightly fry.
3-Take a big mixing bowl, add all the remaining ingredients, add the cooked kala chana and mix well. Adjust the seasoning as per your individual taste. You now have a big bowl of kala chana chaat that is ready to serve.

You may try the same recipe for Kabuli Chana(chickpeas)Chaat.
