Sambharam / Buttermilk - curds for the summer heat
Enjoying every bit of my long holiday at home in Kerala. Spend a few weeks at in-laws place and now its a few weeks at parents. Had thought, would pick up some Kerala dishes from mom but as usual get lazy when I am here. I have been just lazing around and feasting on mom's dishes, so much that I have even forgotten to click snaps of it. :) Guess that's what a holiday at home is all about.
This "Sambharam" or Buttermilk is one that I have thinking of posting for somtime , a perfect quick and easy drink to beat the summer heat. Had Sambharam on the flight from Chennai to Kochi and then a tall glass on one of our trips to Jew Town. This is a great refreshing drink, the nutritional value of curds known to us all - a great source of protein and calcium to say the least. This buttermilk recipe is curds diluted with water and seasoned to make a refreshing drink perfect for the summers.
A quick and easy drink I am sending this over to Mahimaa's "15 minute cooking Event"

Ingredients
Curds/Yogurt - 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup
Water - 1/2 to 3/4 cup water
Ginger -1/2" piece
Green chilli - 1/2 (cut into pieces)
Curry leaves - 4 to 5
Salt to taste
Method:
1- Put curds along with other ingredients into the mixer and run the mixer for 20-30 seconds.
2- Your delicious buttermilk is ready for you to relish.
The Buttermilk that I had in Jew Town, Kochi was tempered with mustard seeds and curry leaves and tasted heavenly.
